Stars
Starry-eyed Lullaby
“Stay away” He said
“Everything in my path is falling apart, and I’m trying
To do all I can to stop the pieces from touching you”
It’s a quote he probably heard from an Indie movie
The words seemed too poetic
Even for his lips
Acting was his fad, but it was mine too
I can distinguish
The real, the raw
From the staged
He often said, rehearsed
The sweetest of lines
Whispered into my neck
Like airless lullabies
That nestled into the pores of my skin
Etching into me
Promises of a lasting love
So I say to him, I’ve already been touched
The broken pieces are going to live inside me forever
Bootleg Love
I’m tasting all the stars
That you had bottled and corked
Though as I drink it all in
I can’t be sure
I was ever the intended recipient
Yet I let you pour
Because I’m already drunk
In your bootleg love
In an Ideal World You Would Have Fought for Me
There is something tragic about being a hopeless romantic
Something tragic about seeing stars as they were forty years ago
Twinkling at us
As if they are really in the present
The night sky is full of
What once was
Stellar memories haunting us with their glow
Your olive eyes are coated in these stars
If
If gravity never existed
Would we have fallen in love?
He asked me
As we laid
Beneath the stars
With our backs
Kissing the ground
